Kayleigh Huelin Music

New for 2018!

Here at Kayleigh Huelin Arrangements we are always trying new things. I've now been arranging pop and light classical music for saxophone ensembles for (believe it or not) the best part of ten years - scary to think about! - but now I am going to be trying something a little different.

This year will be the first year that I'll also be selling some original compositions.

I first tried my hand at composing while at university, where I attended a couple of short courses on composition - however I never finished many of them and certainly never got as far as playing them with my saxophone quartet at the time. It was always something I wanted to do, but somehow I never had time - all my time seemed to be going to create new arrangements, either for saxophone groups or for my local concert band.

During Christmas 2016 I decided that enough was enough, and that if I really wanted to start creating my own music I would have to take it seriously, and that meant finding the time (even if I didn't think I had it!). For 2017 I set myself a resolution; every month I would try to write some original music, whether it was four bars or a whole piece.

I'm happy to say that I managed to keep it up for the entire year - some months I got more done than others, but that is to be expected, and not everything will be something I publish, but it has been a very worthwhile experience. I have heard before that you should not sit around and wait for inspiration to hit if you want to be creative - it is something you have to work at continually, and the fact that I have 12 proto-compositions after a year is a great feeling. I plan to carry this new resolution on into 2018 as well, now that I have the momentum going.

The compositions will all be for saxophone quartet (initially, at least) and I have plans to publish some fairly soon, so make sure to check back here for details of those if you want some exciting new music for your saxophone quartet!
